The new Performing Art Center at Ursinus College will house a 350-seat proscenium theater for drama and music performances. In addition, the Center will house a black box theater for student performances, dance studios, and scenery production shop. The building is being constructed in support of a new performing arts curriculum.
The PAC is provided with new independent HVAC systems for the auditorium, stage house, black box theater and support spaces. The main auditorium is served by an under floor low velocity displacement type supply air system designed to reduce cooling load by stratification of theatrical lighting heat release. This approach also minimizes the noise sometimes associated with duct supply systems. Air is delivered at every other seat at a temperature of 66F to 68F.

Systems are connected to the central campus steam and chilled water utility grid. All air systems are provided with airside economizer cycles. All air systems are or the variable air volume type. All ventilation fans are furnished with variable frequency drives to minimize energy consumption and eliminate the noise associated with changes to system air volume. Each system is provided with year round dehumidification capability for large occupancies.
The building is fully sprinklered and protected by an addressable fire alarm system. The building is equipped with an independent 250-kilowatt emergency generator to serve all life safety systems.
