The Berry Gymnasium project included a renovation of the existing athletic facility and natatorium, as well as a new 75,000 GSF addition to house a 1500-seat basketball arena, new squash and racquetball courts, and several multi-purpose studios for dance, exercise, and martial arts.

The existing field house section of the building was renovated for practice of indoor team sports. In addition, weight rooms and crew practice tanks were provided on the lower level of the building.

Ancillary spaces such as team lockers and visiting lockers, and training facilities were improved and expanded.

The arena and associated courts ventilation systems were equipped with a variable ventilation and heat recovery systems to minimize energy cost. The arena was equipped with lighting for television broadcast.

The condensation problem, which had existed in the natatorium, was corrected using a managed ventilation system designed to maintain the dew point of air above the ceiling space(s) below the surface temperature of the steel roof trusses.
