J. Paul Getty Fine Arts Center Los Angeles, CA
Consulting Mechanical and Electrical Engineers
1987 to 1997

Architects: Richard Meier & Partners

The J. Paul Getty Fine Arts Center both consolidated and expanded the Getty Trust's facilities, previously scattered around the Los Angeles area. The Center includes a major art museum (The Getty Center for The J. Paul Getty Trust), library (Getty Center For The History of Art and Humanities), a separate auditorium building with a 450-seat theater, conservation laboratories (Getty Conservation Institute), and offices for The J. Paul Getty Trust.

The project is located on a 110-acre hilltop site in Los Angeles. The facility includes 940,000 square feet of campus-like buildings set among 24 acres of gardens and terraces.

The project represents an unprecedented undertaking; the construction of almost a 1,000,000 ft2 museum complex as a single project. The project will meet or advance the state of the art in museum technology in almost every area as well as meet California's rigorous Title 24 energy legislation.

Our Firm has had responsibility for all mechanical, electrical (including special systems), plumbing, site utilities, and fire protection engineering since the programming phase of the project.
