Completion Date: 1992

Architects: Robert A. M. Stern Architects

The Norman Rockwell Museum opened to the public in 1992. It is exclusively dedicated to the life's work of Norman Rockwell. The building contains 28,000 gross square feet of gallery, offices, retail, and auditorium spaces on two levels. The facility also includes an art storage facility with an independent climate control system.

AltieriSeborWieber provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection engineering services as well as security programming services for the project. The mechanical plant includes two ice storage vessels served by a low temperature chiller to allow for the production of cooling capacity during off-hours. ASW developed a seven-day operating schedule, which takes advantage of Massachusetts Electric's time of day metering schedule to greatly reduce the electrical demand charges for the building. The design fee and installation cost was supported by Massachusetts Electric Company.

The building is heated by an oil-fired boiler and cooled by an electric driven reciprocating chiller. The 2"comservation climate control systems are of the constant volume reheat type, which operate 24 hours a day for the protection of the collection. Each gallery is an independent temperature control zone.
