Architects: Rafael Moneo Studio in association with Payette Associates Architects

The new Davis Museum has been constructed to house, preserve and exhibit the College's considerable fine arts collection. The new building is 65,000 gross square feet on four levels. It is the first building by Pritzker Prize winner Jose Rafael Moneo constructed in the United States.

The new project program included several floors of gallery space, studio, registrar space, numerous offices, a small theater/cafe, objects conservation, and collection storage. The climate control systems are designed to maintain constant temperature and humidity. Included is a changing exhibition gallery designed to meet AAM standards, with the intention of attracting world class traveling exhibitions.

The building is fully sprinklered with a wet pipe system, however the changing gallery system has the ability of being converted to a pre-action system to meet the lending standards of some institutions such as the National Gallery in Washington D.C.

The existing (33,000 ft2) Jewett Arts Center, designed by Paul Rudolph, has been completely renovated. The Jewett Center houses practice rooms, galleries and studio space; its climate control system has been completely modernized.

The building receives chilled water from the central heating cooling plant located nearby, which operates year round. Gallery and art storage systems operate 24 hours per day. Those same systems receive untreated steam for humidification and are provided with high performance particulate and gas phase filtration.
