1970 - Present

AltieriSeborWieber Consulting Engineers have provided mechanical and electrical engineering services to the Metropolitan Museum of Art since participating in the museum master planning in 1970. During the last 32 years the expansion has closely followed the master plan including the construction of over 800,000 ft2 of new space. In addition, the existing facility containing 1,400,000 ft2 has been substantially modernized. During this period, the approach to museum systems has changed considerably.

We have had the unique experience of participating in this process throughout. Many of the systems designed by our Firm have gone through their complete life cycle, offering us a complete perspective on their performance, maintainability, and energy efficiency.

Work at the Museum continues today. We recently completed the Phase II renovation of the Museum's Greek and Roman galleries. The project included renewal of 4,000 tons of cooling tower, a new 600 ton chiller plant, replacement of the American Wing chiller plant, chilled water distribution improvements, and replacement and improvement of the south electrical service and distribution. Other recent projects include work at the Museum's Annex, the new Southeast Asian galleries, the new Korean galleries, and Asian Art Conservation.

We continue to assist the Museum in the improvement of their mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Currently in design is a new central kitchen and central dining facilities. This is in preparation for the next phase of the Greek and Roman Gallery project, which will include the renovation of the Wing K restaurant as galleries, and the construction of approximately 40,000 ft2 of new administrative space. The project will also include the renovation of the Islamic galleries.
