Completion Date: 1998

Architect: Polshek and Partners

This new 300,000 ft2 center houses a museum, a major library of Native American titles, a public restaurant, an education center, and an exhibition center. The exhibition center includes many multi-media exhibits, which focus on Native American culture and the history of the Pequot tribe. The facility also includes facilities for visiting scholars of Native American culture.

AltieriSeborWieber LLC also provided engineering services to the project's exhibit designer. The exhibit sequence includes life in a cold climate (glacier), a recreation of a Native Museum village, six mini theaters, and two large format theaters.

The building also has a major meeting space for tribal and/or public ceremonies.

The project is served from a stand-alone multi-fuel central heating/cooling plant located in a remote building, which is below grade to minimize the impact on the rural site. MEP systems are state of the art and selected for their energy efficiency. A BMS managed laboratory ventilation control system maintains proper hood ventilation laboratory pressure at minimum energy consumption.
