The St. John's Historical Site is the site of the original English speaking settlement in the State of Maryland. The site includes the archaeological ruins of the original capitol dating to the early 1600's. The site has been excavated by a team of archaeologists and students since the early 1970's.

The State of Maryland retained the team assembled by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson to design a new Visitor Center and protective structure to protect the erosion and further damage.

Working with the architects and preservationist Alphonso Narvaez, AltieriSeborWieber conceived a system of managed humidity to suppress the migration of ground water to the surface where it would cause mineral deposits to attack the masonry ruins.

The HVAC system will consist of a heating cooling plant using geothermal water-air heat pumps. In order to avoid visible ductwork, air is delivered through a radiant Airfloor heating and cooling distribution system.

The St. John's project is currently in the design development phase.

Indoor space humidity will be controlled to suppress moisture migration and prevent mold growth. High efficiency (HEPA) filters will be employed in air systems to minimize infestation of insects.
