Each gallery has the ability to provide either a high or low humidity environment at any time of the year. This was a major criterion in the design of the climate control systems, and reflects the unique make up of the Society's collection. There are also independent low humidity and high humidity art storage vaults. Gas phase filtration has been instituted for the first time at the Society, bringing their contamination control up to the standards of other nationally recognized art institutions.

On the office floors, new power, voice and data distribution has been provided to meet the Society's current needs. Lighting has been improved, and additional temperature zones provided to improve the control and comfort of the staff.

The systems serving trustees and conference suites on the 8th level have been improved to permit video conferencing or use for social functions.

The Asia Society is a multi-use museum facility located at Park Avenue at 71st Street. Originally built in 1983, the building's mechanical and electrical infrastructure system had seriously deteriorated by the late 1980's. Repairs and corrective engineering had begun as early as 1988 on an emergency basis.

In late 1997 Voorsanger Architects and AltieriSeborWieber were retained to undertake a substantial renovation and renewal for the building. New art storage facilities were provided, galleries expanded, and a new multi-purpose Garden Wing added. The entire mechanical and electrical infrastructure was renewed.

ASW worked closely with the Society's facilities director to provide a central plant compatible with the Society's operating schedule which both minimized capital, labor and energy costs. A high efficiency screw chiller, in tandem with a modular chiller was determined to be the best combination of equipment.
